On looking slowly
Why the most radical act in a gallery may be to stand still.
A private gallery devoted to the artists, images, and ideas that shape how we see the world — a living archive of contemporary painting, photography, and sculpture, assembled over twenty-five years of close looking.
We believe a collection is never complete. It is a living constellation of voices, materials, and moments — an invitation to look longer, and to look again.
Every work here was chosen not for its market, but for the question it refuses to stop asking. Together they form a private museum of feeling, kept in trust for the artists who made them and the visitors who come to see.

A meditation on luminosity and its afterimage, bringing together fourteen artists working across image, object, and space. The exhibition traces how light is caught, bent, and remembered — from the silvered surface of a photograph to the raw weight of pigment on linen.

“The most important thing a collector can offer an artwork is attention.”
For more than two decades, Dennis Poe has built a collection around curiosity rather than consensus. His practice is rooted in close looking, long relationships with artists, and an enduring belief in the power of the unexpected.
Trained as an art historian before turning to private curation, he founded the gallery in 1998 with a single acquisition and a conviction that a collection should feel like a conversation — never a catalogue. Today the archive spans four decades of contemporary practice and travels between spaces in New York and London.
He continues to acquire slowly and deliberately, guided by instinct, patience, and an insistence that every work must still surprise him years after it enters the collection.

“A work earns its place when it keeps asking the questions the room forgets.”
Widely regarded as one of the most quietly influential artists of his generation, Wayne Koetje is celebrated for a body of work that pairs rigorous craft with an unmistakable emotional stillness. Collectors and institutions alike have long admired his refusal to repeat himself.
Within the gallery he holds the most senior position after Dennis Poe himself, serving as Featured Artist and Director of Collection. In that role he shapes the direction of new acquisitions and mentors the artists the gallery chooses to champion.
